Who is Mandy?
I continued my creative endeavors with various media, including ink drawings, paintings and branched out into lead-lighting, sun catchers and jewellery which I sold at markets with my friend Anna.
As an assistant craft teacher and parent at a Waldorf/Steiner school I revisited crochet, finally got my knitting tension in hand and discovered the joys of felt! I obsessively sewed everything from animals and dolls to barns and houses for them to live in. Needle felting came next and I found working with the beautiful and versatile soft fleece very calming and inspirational. This led to the creation of my first collection of Art Dolls - 'Divine Dolls'. Each is a one of a kind creation, imbued with the intention of the energies she represents.
My latest foray is in paper sculpture which I am enjoying very much. This has led to the creation of my new series of 'Art of Dolls'.
I hope you enjoy my creations.

These dolls have a pipe cleaner armature over which fine wool fleece is laid and then needle-felted in to place. This is a favourite technique with Waldorf/Steiner dolls.

How are your Art Dolls made?
My dolls start with a body sculpted using a cloth plaster technique resulting in a firm yet lightweight base, the the 'stump doll' style made popular in Tudor England.
Doll heads are sculpted in Fimo air dry clay and hand painted with their own features. Each doll then evolves individually, the finished item achieved by intuitively adding decoration as the work progresses, culminating in a unique Art Doll.
